Steel Tubes and Pipes Steel pipes are made in India using two techniques: skelps and billets. Steel skelps are created when slabs are heated to 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. Scale formation from this process must be eliminated with a scale breaker or high-pressure cleaning. After being cleaned, these skelps are hot-rolled into pipes, creating hot-finished welded tubes. The breadth of the skelp determines the diameter of the pipes. When welding, SR Tube suppliers don’t add extra metal. The pipes’ diameter and wall thickness are decreased by the last roller. Conversely, electric resistance welding is similar, with the exception that they are cold-rolled into the shape of a pipe. Spiral welding and double submerged arc welding both employ conventional welding methods. Additional metal may be added to large diameter steel pipes that are constructed using these methods.
